How do I import choice lists?

It’s simple to build your own choice list using the online editor, but if you already have an extensive list of items, you can import it as a CSV file.

Preparing a CSV for Import

You can structure your list inside of a spreadsheet to load in and automatically create a classification set. You will need to format the values in a CSV file. A single column of items will be converted to a drop down menu of choices when imported and linked to one of your apps. In this example, we have a list of land use zoning types to import:

Once you have your file formatted correctly, save it as a CSV file format. Go to Setup → Choice Lists, then select Import Choice List to upload your file.

Using Custom Data Names

You can also set custom data names in your file as you’re prepping for import. To set the data name value for a choice list item, add the custom data name in the cell to the right of each item. Using the same previous example, we’d use this format so the user sees the zoning type, but Fulcrum stores a coded value:
