SAML Single Sign-On with Azure and Okta

July 12, 2019

Centralized provisioning in Fulcrum

At the start of the year we launched Fulcrum Enterprise, a plan designed for large organizations with distributed workforces, multiple site locations, and a need to centralize account management controls within IT departments.

Fulcrum Enterprise includes support for Single Sign-On (SSO) with SAML 2.0, which enables large deployments with better user provisioning and authentication controls.

Single Sign-On allows you to use your own identity management directory for logging in to Fulcrum, providing your users with a way to authenticate to Fulcrum with the same set of credentials they use for other corporate systems. This provides not only additional usability advantages for your users, but also allows IT system administrators to control things like password lengths, reset cycles, and application access from one centralized console along with all other corporate applications.

Fulcrum’s SSO can be used with any directory management system that supports the SAML standard; we’ve also published apps with two of the most popular identity management platforms: Okta and Microsoft’s Azure Active Directory service. The apps for each provide preconfigured apps that simplify provisioning within your directory. There are also step-by-step guides that showcase how to get Fulcrum SSO linked up for your account:

Our SSO integration isn’t limited to these platforms, however. Other SAML-based systems that work with Fulcrum include Auth0, G Suite, Bitium, Microsoft ADFS, OneLogin, Centrify, and more.

Once deployed with Fulcrum, users then sign in with their corporate-managed username and password on all Fulcrum clients — website, iOS, and Android apps. When combined with our Audit Logs feature, SSO provides Enterprise administrators greater access and control over user activity within their organization.

Update: Dec 2022

Fulcrum continues to pursue platform developments supporting not only our users responsible for field inspections, but also the IT teams responsible for making sure they have the right inspection tools in hand to do their jobs. We’re pleased to announce that we’re able to do both things with our recent adoption of SCIM (System for Cross-domain Identity Management), allowing users to provision and deprovision Fulcrum using centralized identity management platforms such as Okta and Azure.

IT teams are challenged today with efficiently managing and scaling SaaS applications across growing teams. In addition, security concerns associated with untimely deprovisioning of former employees pose serious risk, not to mention the recurring cost of unused licenses.

With new centralized management of Fulcrum, you will enjoy better control of license assignment onboarding and off-boarding, which complements your SSO technology.

SCIM is available today to Fulcrum accounts at an Enterprise subscription level. If you want more information on upgrading to an Enterprise account, please contact your Account Executive or reach out to us sales@fulcrumapp.com.
