Ascent, LLC provides engineering, construction, and operational services for data centers and other mission critical facilities across North America. As the company landed larger clients with bigger footprints, the asset data those clients expected became far more demanding. Its data quality team needed a faster way to get complete equipment records from the field into the system.
Documenting a site meant walking the facility with a laptop and camera, then building each record from the photos later. At one Atlanta data center, two people spent three to four days capturing roughly 1,000 assets in about 5,000 photos. Turning those photos into documented assets then took another six weeks of processing before the records reached the system.
Kyle Dearing, Data Quality Manager at Ascent, built the company’s asset capture apps himself with no professional development background. He configured fields for roughly 75 asset groups, so every classification asks for exactly the details it requires.
“Fulcrum makes it easy,” he said. “I can drag, drop, and click, and that made a tremendous difference in building apps without writing code.”
Expansion work at an existing site in Toronto gave Ascent a direct comparison with the old process. One person captured about 1,400 assets in four days, and every record was in the system within a week.
