Fall 2018 All Hands Recap

October 24, 2018

Our semi-annual All Hands events are always energizing and fun-filled, but last week was one for the record books.

With 54 full-time employees, it was our biggest ever (there were 33 at our last Fall All Hands!) – and if you saw the barrage of photos on our social media accounts, you already know it was epic.

During All Hands, the entire Spatial Networks staff spends a week at our headquarters in downtown St. Petersburg, Florida. The days are packed with meetings, presentations, and team-building activities, which solidify our vision and strengthen our connections so we can continue to deliver bigger and better products to our customers.

Oh – and eating. We do a lot of eating.

We kicked off the week with a few fun icebreaker exercises Monday morning. With a team growing as fast as ours, there were lots of new faces. Everyone introduced themselves with three words about why they work at SNI. Here they are, represented in a word cloud (the bigger the word, the more people who said it):

Word cloud

Here are some more highlights from the week:

SNI team at the Lightning game

Score! Tuesday night was a blast. We were treated to a suite at the Amalie Arena, where we socialized, ate, drank, and watched the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2! Pictured from left to right, top to bottom: Stephanie, Kristen, Emily, Lily, Adam, Ryan, and Dan.

Breakfast from Mickey's and lunch from Fresh Kitchen

Bacon breakfast: We spend a lot of time in the kitchen during All Hands week. You can see why.

Barry gets his caricature drawn

Say cheese: Sales Manager Barry gets his caricature drawn by artist Al from Cartoon Guru on Wednesday. Al spent the day drawing everyone on the staff!

Ry and Caleb show off their caricatures

Twins! We had a lot of laughs sharing our caricatures throughout the day. Ry’s and Caleb’s were two of our favorites, but you can see the whole team’s here.

SNI team assembling lunches

Assembly line: Thursday, the team made sack lunches to deliver to the less fortunate around downtown St. Petersburg. It felt so good to give back to the community in such a tangible way, we’re making it a permanent component of All Hands week from now on!

Tim presents Jason with his trophy remotely

El Taco Superior: One of the ways we recognize each other’s accomplishments at SNI is with the Slack app Hey Taco! Engineer Jason Sanford (shown on the screen of the laptop above, which is being held by Creative Director Tim Campbell) won the trophy, having received the most tacos this year (382). Jason couldn’t join us this All Hands because he was awaiting the birth of his son, who arrived Saturday!

Using old school maps in the dev pit

Geotrivia! Spatial Networks is, first and foremost, a geography company, so every Friday we play a game of Geotrivia. Usually conducted over Slack, the host (the previous week’s winner) chooses a country and gives the team clues until someone guesses correctly, using only a map as reference. (No Googling allowed!)

Kelli recieves the first annual McCormick cup for Geotrivia

The McCormick Cup: The winner of our first-ever live Geotrivia was our Customer Strategy Specialist, Kelli! Above, Kelli is handed the McCormick Cup by VP of Product Coleman McCormick, who wins at Geotrivia a solid 60% of the time. (Friday’s answer was Sri Lanka.)

And even more highlights, by the numbers:

  • 28,170 miles traveled by air by remote staff to get to headquarters and back
  • 1,080 slices of bacon ordered for breakfast
  • 6,327 Hey Taco! tacos given amongst the team over the last year
  • 108 sack lunches made and distributed around downtown St. Petersburg
  • 30 employees with 1 year or less of tenure at Spatial Networks
  • 63% more SNI staff than at last year’s Fall All Hands week
  • 11 states represented by SNI staff
  • 51 caricatures drawn by Al
  • 4 clues before Kelli correctly named the country during Geotrivia
  • 1 security refresher, which CIO Bill Dollins somehow managed to make entertaining!

By Friday night, our All Hands Slack channel was full of photos, messages of gratitude, and wishes for remote employees’ safe travels home. Everyone agreed it was the best All Hands in SNI history, so it’s going to be hard to beat… But we’ll find a way!

And guess what? We’re still hiring! Check out our available positions and maybe you’ll be a part of our next All Hands week!
