Fulcrum is a field inspection management platform built to streamline safety and quality processes, field operations, and asset inspections, especially for mobile teams.
While at Fulcrum we often talk about inspections, what about the clients who use software not strictly for inspections, but for collecting data in the field? In the next few weeks we’ll be sharing some examples of clients whose use case doesn’t fit the mold of field inspections, and how they use Fulcrum to collect richer, more comprehensive data in less time and with fewer resources. For Part 1, we have corporate organizations that use Fulcrum to perform data collection functions in their important work around the world.
GreenCollar – Natural resource management company GreenCollar oversees almost half a million acres of forest in Australia. As part of its efforts to make a positive environmental impact, GreenCollar performs technical surveys, monitoring, and evaluation of the land it manages. Some of the use cases of Fulcrum include collection of forest biomass data, flora and fauna surveys, verification of roads and trails, biodiversity assessments, and auditing projects. With Fulcrum’s real-time data sharing, GreenCollar has been able to implement zero time-lag decision making using data collected on the ground.
Client quote: “We can have field teams on the phone talking to us whilst the data they are discussing is popping up on our screen back at base. This allows us to operate dynamically with field staff as opposed to the old way of getting data in, analyzing it then informing them days later what is required.”
MSI, a Tetra Tech Company – MSI is a USA-based consulting firm specializing in international development services, including activity monitoring in conflict zones, for clients including the U.S. Departments of State and Defense. Local field teams with differing levels of tech expertise collect data from remote and often dangerous parts of the world using Fulcrum on handheld devices. MSI then uses that data to perform follow-on activities through backend applications including API and webhooks to generate reports, visualizations, and other analyses and evaluations needed to gauge the effectiveness of client interventions.
Client quote: “Fulcrum is our go-to because we don’t have to worry about the technology. We know that it will work. We can just worry about everything else.”
Rodriguez Consulting, LLC – A regional leader in providing engineering and geospatial solutions for infrastructure, Rodriguez Consulting first came to use Fulcrum when it was tasked with inventorying decommissioned fire hydrants as well as determining any impacts their removal would have on surrounding pavement, ADA ramps, and other street and sidewalk components. Fulcrum incorporated existing GIS data to guide field teams performing the work, while the data collected was able to be collated into a client-friendly report for easy tasking of follow-on construction work. Rodriguez Consulting was able to complete the inspection of over 1,000 hydrants on more than 56 miles of roadway in about a month with only four field team engineering technicians.
Client quote: “We were able to deliver all of the information to the client via a user-friendly interface that allowed decision makers to view hydrant locations, attributes, and digital photos all from one program.”
Wonderful Orchards – The world’s largest grower of almonds, pistachios, and pomegranates, Wonderful Orchards teamed up with Fulcrum to perform field operations in its geographically dispersed 85,000 planted acres. Just some of the tasks Wonderful Orchards field teams use Fulcrum to perform include assessing moisture levels to inform irrigation decisions, inspect bee hives, assess post-harvest tree conditions as well as to perform water meter inspections and maintenance. Finally, Fulcrum is also used to tag, track, inspect and maintain sanitary facilities to comply with food safety regulations. Fulcrum has allowed Wonderful Orchards to provide effective, timely support to its field teams, while collecting accurate, actionable data to inform crop management decisions in real time. Finally, Wonderful Orchards can easily create and share maps of progress reports complete with mapwith and management using a map for vastly improved insight into operations.
Client quote: “I think one of the big things you can’t really measure is buy-in from employees in the field. People that didn’t want to go away from pen and paper and the old way of doing things now come to us and have ideas for apps. They really embraced this as a tool to help them.”
