Fulcrum for Data Collection: Part I – Companies

By The Fulcrum Team
November 30, 2022

While at Fulcrum we often talk about inspections, what about the clients who use software not strictly for inspections, but for collecting field data? In the next few weeks we’ll be sharing some examples of clients whose use case doesn’t fit the mold of field inspections, and how they use Fulcrum to collect richer, more comprehensive data in less time and with fewer resources. For Part 1, we have corporate organizations that use Fulcrum to perform real-time data collection software functions in their important work around the world.

GreenCollar

Natural resource management company GreenCollar oversees almost half a million acres of forest in Australia. As part of its efforts to make a positive environmental impact, GreenCollar performs technical surveys, monitoring, and evaluation of the land it manages. Some of the use cases of Fulcrum include collection of forest biomass data, flora and fauna surveys, verification of roads and trails, biodiversity assessments, and auditing projects. With Fulcrum’s real-time data sharing, GreenCollar has been able to implement zero time-lag decision making using data collected on the ground.

“We can have field teams on the phone talking to us whilst the data they are discussing is popping up on our screen back at base. This allows us to operate dynamically with field staff as opposed to the old way of getting data in, analyzing it then informing them days later what is required.”

‍MSI, a Tetra Tech Company

MSI is a USA-based consulting firm specializing in international development services, including activity monitoring in conflict zones, for clients including the U.S. Departments of State and Defense. Local field teams, with varying tech expertise, gather data in remote and perilous areas worldwide. They utilize Fulcrum on handheld devices for this purpose. MSI subsequently employs this data for follow-up actions via backend applications. These actions involve API and webhooks usage to create reports, visualizations, and analyses. These elements are crucial for assessing the impact of client interventions.

“Fulcrum is our go-to because we don’t have to worry about the technology. We know that it will work. We can just worry about everything else.”

‍Rodriguez Consulting, LLC

A regional leader in providing engineering and geospatial solutions for infrastructure, Rodriguez Consulting first came to use Fulcrum when it was tasked with inventorying decommissioned fire hydrants. The project also included determining the impact of removal on surrounding pavement, ADA ramps, and other street and sidewalk components.  Fulcrum seamlessly integrated existing GIS data to assist field teams in their tasks. The collected data was efficiently compiled into a user-friendly report, simplifying the coordination of subsequent construction efforts. Rodriguez Consulting inspected over 1,000 hydrants on 50+ miles of roadway in about a month with only four field team engineering technicians.

“We were able to deliver all of the information to the client via a user-friendly interface that allowed decision makers to view hydrant locations, attributes, and digital photos all from one program.”

‍Wonderful Orchards

The world’s largest grower of almonds, pistachios, and pomegranates, Wonderful Orchards partnered with Fulcrum for field operations. These operations span their vast 85,000 planted acres. Additionally, tasks encompass moisture assessment, bee hive inspections, post-harvest tree evaluation, and water meter maintenance. Lastly, Fulcrum is employed to tag, track, inspect, and maintain sanitary facilities, ensuring compliance with food safety regulations. Ultimately, Fulcrum empowers Wonderful Orchards by providing timely field team support and real-time data for crop management. Moreover, it facilitates the seamless creation and sharing of progress reports and maps, thereby enhancing operational insights.

“I think one of the big things you can’t really measure is buy-in from employees in the field. People that didn’t want to go away from pen and paper and the old way of doing things now come to us and have ideas for apps. They really embraced this as a tool to help them.”
