Lesser-Known Tricks in Fulcrum’s Web App

February 14, 2019

While we try to make Fulcrum as intuitive to use as possible, there are some features that Fulcrum offers that may not stand out as clearly as the others. In this post, we’ll demonstrate some of those features.

‍Hiding Sections in the App Designer

To start, we will take a look at a feature on the app designer. Most of the functions and features in the app designer are pretty obvious. One thing that isn’t, but can be very helpful when constructing larger apps, is the ability to collapse the sections.

When a section or repeatable section is collapsed, all the fields contained within that section are hidden in the app designer. This is done by clicking on the section or repeatable section icons within the layout section of the app designer. This allows you to reduce noise while constructing or editing your app’s design so that only the parts of your app that still need work are being displayed.

Displaying/Hiding Record Metadata and Map

Along the same vein as being able to hide sections, this feature is located within the record editor on the Fulcrum web app. When you are viewing a record in either the quick view or the full screen “open” view, you can click on the map button in the upper-right part of the record view to collapse or display the map.

Additionally, you can click on the “eye” icon to the left of the section names to hide or display the fields contained within that section. Similar to the advantages with hiding the sections on the app designer, these features allows you to collapse the maps and/or sections to reduce noise and locate the data that you are interested in quickly.

Summary Row in the Data table

Sticking on the record editor, there is an often-overlooked feature at the bottom of the record table. This is called the summary row and can provide you with some insightful details about the data that is collected within a specific field. The options presented in the summary row cells for each field vary based on the field type (and there are a few field types that are not supported by the summary row). To access the options on the summary row, just click on the cell in the row that you wish to view.

Viewing Repeatable Data Within the Record Editor

While it is obvious on how to view the child records in a repeatable section for specific records, there is also a way to view all child records across all records within a specific app. To do this, click on the app selector in the upper-left corner of the page. Once the app selector drop-down is displayed you can simply select the repeatable section you wish to view the data for. You can easily find the repeatable sections in the pick-list because they are indented and not bold.
