We are incredibly excited to be supporting the 2017 FOSS4G Conference as a Gold Sponsor this August in Boston, MA! The annual International Conference for Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial (FOSS4G) is the largest global gathering of developers, users, decision-makers and observers focused on open source geospatial software. It’s a week of workshops, presentations, discussions, and networking, with a solid reputation for quality and good fun.
This year’s conference will surely build on that solid reputation of past FOSS4G events, but Boston promises a fresh approach and exciting new opportunities! One particular perk that really enticed us to sponsor this year’s conference is the opportunity to offer a co-located pre-conference event during FOSS4G week. So, while it’s still early in the planning process, you heard it here first:
We are committed to hosting a full day Fulcrum event on Tuesday, August 15th, 2017 at the Seaport Hotel & World Trade Center in Boston, MA.
We will be spending the next several months preparing and putting together an agenda, which will include presentations from both Fulcrum staff and customers, highlighting new features and initiatives, as well as success stories and some of the diverse applications of Fulcrum across the globe. We’re also planning to schedule some special working sessions with our business partners and close colleagues.
As we work on planning for this event, we will be reaching out to our network to better understand what folks are interested in and how we can best utilize our time together in New England. This is a unique opportunity for us to piggy back on a truly world-class event and our hope is to encourage our users from across the globe to make the trip to Boston and spend some time with us during FOSS4G.
FOSS4G Boston 2017
After the 2016 conference in Bonn, Germany, the FOSS4G torch was passed to the Boston local organizing committee, led by Michael Terner and Guido Stein of AppGeo.
The committee has been working hard to put this event together and details are being added to the website as they become available. Three notable keynote speakers have already been booked, including Dr. Richard Stallman, Founder and President of the Free Software Foundation. Sponsors are already committing, though there are still sponsorship opportunities available.
The program is still a work in progress, but pre-conference events (workshops & co-located events) will be taking place on Monday (8/14) & Tuesday (8/15), the main conference days will be Wednesday (8/16), Thursday (8/17), and Friday (8/18), with a code sprint on Saturday (8/19). The Fulcrum event will run concurrently with other co-located events, including the excellent JS.Geo Conference, on Tuesday.
Early bird registration will open up in the next week or so, so if you are interested in attending, please make it a point to register early! In addition to all the other benefits of registering early, you will want to make sure to book your travel and lodging reservations as soon as possible. Follow @foss4g for the latest updates and announcements.
Fulcrum & FOSS4G
The Fulcrum platform is built on many open source spatial components, including PostGIS, Leaflet, mapbox.js, and MBTiles, to name a few. Our web and mobile applications include many other non-spatial open source components as well, so we understand the value of open source technology, particularly as it relates to building a viable SaaS product. Our developers have contributed to several leading open source tools, and we maintain many of our own open source repositories.
We are actively engaged in the OpenStreetMap community and are beta testing a new, free product we are launching to support crowdsourcing initiatives for collecting open data, known as Fulcrum Community. Stay tuned for more regarding Fulcrum Community in the coming weeks, and we should have plenty to share with you by August!
